Summer is in full swing.
The wind blows up from the Sahara.
The sun burns; the Ionian cools.
We’re sitting at a kiosk at the “Aziz” beach, 2 kilometers east of Donnalucata in Southeast Sicily.
“Three hours on the beach, the best coffee money can buy, two fresh brioches, and a turquoise view of the Mediterranean that extends to Africa,” Kim says, “All for five euro.”
Happy Fourth! Are you on the beach?
****
Directions: From Donnalucata, drive 2 kms east (following signs to Marina di Modica and Siracusa). When you see a (faded ) sign that says “Aziz” and “Pizzeria,” turn right and go all the way to the water, where you’ll see a white “kiosk.” Ask locals for help: everyone knows Aziz. Go early to get good parking: the bar opens at 9am and is peaceful until about 11:00.
Ah.. Yes….! I get it now..! I should’ve added ‘this year’ or ‘ this summer ‘ after ‘yet ‘ in my sentence. I lived for 16 years in the Mediterranean ( White Sea to us )Region.
OK, OK!!! Got ya, Cemal.
Never been to Aziz it looks very friendly. It make me think of Cefalu. My favorite beach was at the entrance to Lo Zingaro , near Scopello just a tiny piece of sand between the rocks.
Dennis, I remember pretty Scopello. I wonder if it’s still as tiny and pristine as it once was.
memories! I so miss Sicily.
Lucy, I think it’s time for you to come back!
Beautiful photos, Jann. I haven’t touched the Mediterranean yet…!
Cemal–you live in Turkey. How is it possible you haven’t touched the Mediterranean?
Beautiful photos Jann. I think I can smell the breeze and taste the brioche!
Sicily misses you!
thanks, it was lovely seeing these photos.
Thanks for your comment, Catherine.
Is this the cafe next to cicco’s house?
I’m not sure, Wayne, but I don’t think so. Are you thinking Punto Secco?
Just got back from the beach actually 🙂
Out on “campo felice di roccella”, up near Cefalu’. The water was lovely and warm, and with my waterproof 50+ spf I managed to keep my pasty white complexion intact!
Ha ha, Haley. I’m the same–slathering on the sunscreen & wearing big hats & staying under umbrellas. So un-Italian.
Oh!!!! Beautiful!
Ciao Michelle & grazie!
Not on the beach but enjoying it vicariously via your blog. I think I’ll go make myself a cup of coffee and then just sit and stare at your beach pictures on my computer screen. Do you think I’ll get a tan?
🙂
Jann, I’m on the beach! 🙂 I love these captures! Incredible, magical, and downright the best place to be! And with magic selling for five euros, I want in! At your beach. Where they have the greatest coffee. If I had a magic bed like the one in “Bedknobs and Broomsticks,” I’d transport myself there!
Bella, you’re at your beach in Spain and you want the beach in Sicily? I’m sure yours is just as gorgeous, though I’m also sure we’ve got better coffee!
Oh, I can feel the hot sun on my face, the cool water on my toes. But that’s as far as I go. No beach today, but I could take SE Sicily! Lovely blog.
Thanks for visiting, Susan!
We are coming sooon!
OK, Charmain. We’ll save some sun for you!
Hello, just wanted to say that I love your photos. I’m a Norwegian woman who ended up just outside Rome because of two velvety brown eyes of an Italian… And it’s always fun seeing that all of us “stranieri” in some strange way make the same experiences in this country. But in the end, we all love it, don’t we?
Beautiful, Jann. Enjoy every moment.
