Hi jan hope you are well, so sorry not been in touch sooner, thanks for looking after us when we met you, just to let you know, there was a big article in the mail in the uk, one of the bigist papers here, and you were mentioned the article was very complementary.
Keep up the good work, turn your phone off if you don’t want to get a call for olive picking, back on the 1st. Speak soon.

  • Jann, I love n10 the most! And the colors on these facades! Simply breathtaking. Oh, how I would love to live in Italy. I’m totally envisioning myself living there in the near future. Or I should say, I’m looking at my vision notebook, (which is filled with pictures of Tuscany) every day. A girl can dream, right? Have a great weekend! 🙂

    • Jann

Oh, Bella–I love the idea of a vision notebook!!! Dreaming is the first step to making something happen, and I believe Italy is going to happen for you. Not only that, Italians will embrace you xxxxxxxxxxxxx–I can tell.

How sweet! I bought ceramic numbers for the house in Marispica. However, the council in Ispica can’t decide what house number we are. They’ve also changed the road name a few times, too. So, we have a numberless casa. That’s Sicily!!

Charming. Does Sicily have the bewildering dual parallel numbering the way Florence does (red and blue, one for commercial addresses, one for residential… or is it the other way around)? – Mark

  • The hand-painted are my favourites Jann. We could write a thesis on the regional differences of house numbers in Italy!! The ceramic tradition has a very southern flavour and I like the embedded look too….;-) You know I love this sort of stuff! Beautiful post. Jx

OK, Janine–let’s write this thesis. We could travel all over Italy taking pix together of houses in the various regions. FUN!!

  • My favorite addresses are the “bis” ones, as if, numbers being limited to only a few, it is necessary to use variations of each instead of frittering them away indiscriminately.

  • I LOoooooooooooooVE!

Sweet beautiful ART. So veeeery Italy <3

Love to you, Jann. Hoping your are well Xxxxxx

I came at last to Modica, such a wonderful city, and saw these. I also loved the post boxes on the casas too! How I wish I were
back there…..I even enjoyed climbing steps immensely as I was breathing in jasmine scent all the while.

I BOUGHT NUMBERS IN iTALY AND HAVE THE NUMBERED TILE ON MY VACATION HOME ON CAPE COD. IT IS STUNNING..

I like the 2nd-to-last photo best. I’m going to go out and buy a 4 inch wide brush and paint my address on the front of my house too!

  • Most of these look like tiles — what a cool idea! Here, we generally go for metal numbers nailed into the wood. Or a sign attached to a lamppost. It works, but it really doesn’t have the charm yours do!
